Welcome to Our Home

In 2017, we bought a builder's grade home in Nova Scotia. The house was a newer energy efficient home which is something we wanted. We also wanted something that was somewhat different to the other homes in the subdivision. We did that.

The things we liked best about the outside of the house are:

  • It is quite different looking than the rest of the houses on the block by having a garage that juts out and being super high.
  • The driveway is aggregate cement.
  • It has a lovely shed that matches the house.
  • The lot is a corner one with a 90 ft hedge along the road side.
  • There are no shutters on the house.
  • The lawn was in wonderful shape.
What we disliked:
  • It is very monotoned and the browns did not all match. There wasn't enough contrast to the browns giving it a dull appearance.
  • The yard was looked after by the owners when they were home. The plants were ones that could stand less care.
  • Overall there was no wow factor.

The inside of the house was done in one shade of yellow tan upstairs and a darker shade downstairs. We lived with it for 18 months before we decided that the color is very depressing for us. It is also dark and dingy in the winter when we need light and airy.

When we looked at the inside we knew we would do a few upgrades to the house - updated plug ins for sure. We also knew we wanted to bring a farmhouse look to the inside that is neutral with pops of color in the soft furnishings.
What we didn't expect was to be sick in the winter of 2017 and myself again in the winter of 2018. We didn't expect the basement to flood and have to make some snap decisions down there. I am behind on the downstairs decorating and am trying to do it while doing outside jobs.

An Update (July 31, 2023)

We did not get as much done to the house as we hoped. The Spousal Unit's health declined and he passed away on Sept. 2022. I will be posting what we did and what I plan on doing to bring this place to become the dream we had.
